Stargate Universe Cancellation Kills “Stargate Atlantis” Movie Possibility
Well, it seems the death of SGU has taken another casualty with it. The planned Stargate: Atlantis film known around fan circles as Stargate: Extinction was planned as another straight-to-dvd film in the franchise, and the first revolving around the crew if Atlantis.
Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi took to his blog to answer fan questions and shared the news.
“I’m sorry to say but the cancellation puts the brakes on whatever progress the ‘SGA’ movie had made in the past month, shelving it indefinitely,” Mallozzi wrote.
“The cancellation of ‘SGU’ is very bad news for those looking forward to an ‘Atlantis’ movie,” he said.
There is going to be a bridge moment for Atlantis fans in the upcoming back nine episodes of SGU that will air before the show ends indefinitely. In the planned episode, Rodney McKay returns, whereas actor David Hewlett will reprise his beloved character.
This is more sad news for Stargate fans and one that was expected with the cancellation not only of the series, but also the continued financial woes of MGM and the observation that Syfy wants nothing to do with programs that aren’t fully theirs. I for one think this is the final blow to Stargate for awhile.
